Affordable Asbestos Removal Cardiff

Asbestos, a group of naturally occurring minerals, was once a common ingredient in various building materials, including Artex, a popular decorative coating used in homes across the UK, including Caerphilly. Artex, also known as textured ceiling coating, was widely used in the mid-20th century for its fire-resistant and insulating properties.

Artex, a mixture of cement, water, and asbestos fibers, was first introduced in the 1930s. The asbestos content in Artex was typically around 3-5%, which was considered safe at the time. However, as the dangers of asbestos became more apparent, the UK government began to take action.

In 1985, the UK government banned the use of blue asbestos (crocidolite) and brown asbestos (amosite) in all products, including Artex. However, white asbestos (chrysotile) was still permitted for use in certain applications, including Artex, until 1999.

In 1999, the UK government finally banned the use of all types of asbestos, including white asbestos, in all products, including Artex. This marked the end of asbestos-containing Artex in the UK.

Although asbestos is no longer used in Artex, many homes in Caerphilly and across the UK still contain asbestos-containing Artex ceilings. These ceilings can pose a risk to homeowners and workers if disturbed or damaged.
